Katie & Saebom {Youngstown, Ohio}

kswed_2048

Katie & Saebom tell of their day in their own words:

How we met:  at the Cleveland Clinic where Katie was a nurse in the cardiac ICU and I did my anesthesia fellowship.  Allison, one of her coworker and friend set us up.  Before Allison introduced us, I was bummed because I overheard Katie talking to another physician and telling him that she was engaged.  Turns out it was a story she was telling him so he’d quit bothering her.
Saebom was a cardio-thoracic anesthesia fellow and I was an ICU nurse at the Cleveland Clinic. I had my eye on him for some time and was trying to get people to figure out his ” situation ” for me. One doctor told me he was dating someone ( which was not true ) but thankfully my coworker, Allison got the inside scoop and let him know I was interested.

kswed_0149

Our first date: valentines day 2010.  luckily got last minute dinner reservation at a restaurant in Tremont Ohio and luckily, Katie didn’t cancel on me (as she’s told me she thought about doing because of nerves).  then went to Dave and Busters and got my ass kicked in basketball.  (got her back in air hockey though).  Then drinks afterward… I got beer and she got…  a tequila sunrise  …  still cracks me up that she got that!
Our first date was at a fancy restaurant in Tremont on Valentine’s Day. After that we went to Dave and Busters and he got to see first hand how competitive I am and that I hate to lose in anything. I whooped him in bball and bragged until he put me to shame in air hockey. Afterwards, we went to Applebee’s to get a drink. I didn’t drink but wanted to act cool so when I ordered, I confidently ordered the only drink I could think of…..a tequila sunrise hahaha…. I will never live that down

My thoughts the morning of the wedding: I was very excited but nervous about the weather. Not long after my bridesmaids came to the house, Saebom sent me a picture ( text message ) of a rainbow outside and said don’t worry about anything. He was absolutely right! (K)

kswed_0425

we had our ceremony at Katie’s folks place, Ann and Gary.  seeing the final result of the preparation by Katie’s parents, their backyard always looks great but on that day, it looked like a national garden (S)

When I first saw (Katie) walking/standing down the aisle : I felt pretty relaxed up to that point but when I saw her coming around the corner, I had palpitations.  First time that’s ever happened. (S)
I was so excited to see Saebom for the first time at the “altar”. I have been looking forward to that moment since he asked me to marry him! (K)

Advice for couple getting married :  This wedding is about you and your significant other. Don’t try to compare yourself or your wedding to anyone else’s. The day goes by fast so take time to take it all in and don’t stress the little stuff!

Emily & Brandon 9.8.17 The Oliver House/Maumee Bay Brewing Company

ebwed_0064

Emily & Brandon could not have asked for more perfect weather for their wedding day! Surrounded by family and friends, these two were full of emotion the entire day and I was so lucky to be asked to be a part of it!

Emily chose jewel tones for her maids dresses and allowed them to choose any of those colors in a lace that they liked. I think they nailed it!

(this image below is shot through a mirror I held up for the reflection)

And those handmade (with LOVE) boutonnières!! each one unique and personal!

ebwed_0450

Can we just talk about this bouquet for a moment?? GAH!! Emily chose very special embellishments to adorn her flowers and each flower had a special piece of her heart attached!

When I asked her to go stand by her dress for a moment she was overcome with emotion. Have I mentioned I LOVE emotion!

Just before Emily’s father came in to see his youngest daughter for the first time in her dress, she let go of a few more tears..

Pastor Chad (AKA PC) prayed with Emily just before heading out to get the guys in place, and Emily’s maids prayed again, as Arianna lead them all in words of peace, encouragement, and love.

As PC prayed over the couple at the end, they realized Brandon hadn’t out his shoes and socks back on and they would be walking back up the aisle as husband and wife like ‘Shoeless Joe Jackson’! Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion!

Elizabeth & Brad ~backyard engagement session

lizbrad011

I include an engagement  session in all of my wedding collections. I believe it’s a great way to get to know the couple a little better after the initial consultation and booking. Having them in front of my camera, even if for only 30-45 minutes, prior to the wedding day, helps us all to know what works, what it’s like to be photographed professionally (if they haven’t, and most couples haven’t before the wedding day-selfies don’t count!!) , how EASY it is to be in front of my camera, and then I get to know a little more about them.

This sweet couple have a little girl, Cecilia, just two years old.  Though she wasn’t as fond of the photo shoot, having just woke up not too long before, she was just a little too adorable not to try to capture her in a few images with mom and dad!

We got to photograph on Elizabeth’s family property in Sylvania, Ohio, which is also where their reception was held! (more on that later!)

Elishia & Ben. Woodville, Ohio

SutterDet453

Ben and my son met at church youth group when they were just teenagers. Ben stood along side my son Evan at his wedding, and I  was so honored to be asked to photograph their special day. It was hard to hold back tears watching this amazing young man marry the girl of his dreams. I know Ben’s heart and passion for life and it just gave me all the feels that day!

Ben & Elishia were married at Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville, Ohio. Elishia’s mom owns a hair salon (Country hair Creations ) right down the street on the main road in Woodville, which is where the festivities began with all the girls getting ready for the day!

I asked Elishia & Ben a few questions about their recollection of their wedding day (I love to purposely have them recall things that happened that day that may otherwise be forgotten) and their responses are below, so be sure not to scroll too quickly so you can hear about their day in their own words!

SutterDet388
what were your first thoughts when you woke up that morning?
E- My first thoughts were…I’M GETTING MARRIED TODAY! I was nervous, anxious, excited. I think I literally felt every emotion that day. I was so excited to one: Enjoy the day that we had been waiting in anticipation for over 2 years and two: start this crazy fun marriage journey with my best friend! I was so excited to make it “official,” move into our new home together, and learn so much more about each other.
B- My first thought was “I need to keep practicing my vows.” Lol. We decided to memorize them and I was really, really nervous that I would stutter or forget them. It was a great experience, but for whatever reason, I was really stressed about it. Other than that, I was on cloud nine. I just kept thinking about the timeline and making sure I was where I needed to be.

SutterFL867
SutterFL881
Did you choose to do a first look or read letters or pray together? Why or why not?
E- We did a first look with our parents. Ben got to see his mom and dad and my dad, mom, brother, and grandpa got to see me. Those were SO emotional and I am SO glad we did that. I think it was really important to us because our parents have been such strong influences in our lives. These were not only for the first look, but for the encouraging words and love we could share with each other before this big moment in our lives.

Ben and I also prayed together around the church door. Since the beginning of our relationship we have discussed the importance of growing together in all aspects, including prayer. It was important to us to begin our marriage in prayer and to remember that marriage is the unity of us with God.
B~We did all three. I did a first look with my mom and Elishia did a first look with her dad. We didn’t do a first look with each other, but we did a prayer together on opposite sides of the church doors before the wedding. That was an incredible experience and I am so happy we decided to do that. We also wrote letters to one another. It was a great way for me to put down my thoughts leading up to the wedding and to read what she wrote before our wedding. All of those things were incredible experiences that helped make our wedding day perfect for us.

What did you feel/think when you first saw each other?
E-This sounds silly, but my thought was oh my gosh this is happening. We have talked about getting married since our first month of dating. We knew from the very start. I remember trying to take every moment in, including the nerves and butterflies as I walked down the aisle. I remember looking at him as I walked down the aisle and forgetting about the hundreds of people who attended our wedding and relishing in just us and the entire reason we were there together, to join as one.
B- My first thought was how can I possibly be this blessed? She looked absolutely gorgeous in her dress and everything was exactly how I hoped it would be. I thought I couldn’t be any happier and I was just blessed to be starting my life as her husband.

what will you always remember about that day?
E- What I remember most is how emotional my dad was. I won’t forget the toast he gave about what to take from our parents as we embark on our journey. From our fathers, probably work ethic and the willingness to take a chance. And from our mother’s compassion for others and for each other. We felt so much love from everyone who was there and I really couldn’t extend the amount of gratitude we feel. We had friends and family from so many different states, and we were surrounded by so much love. It was overwhelming in the best way possible!
All of it. I will never forget any of it. It was perfectly captured in our photos and video. It is all exactly how I remember it. If I had to pick one thing I will never forget, I would pick my best man speeches. My brothers had me rolling from the very beginning.

favorite part of the day?
E- We had a BLAST at the reception. When we look back at the pictures and video footage, there were SO many people up and dancing. We didn’t leave the dance floor. These are some of the best memories and we can’t thank our family and friends enough for being SO much fun to hang out with and making our day so special!
B- It was all awesome, but I probably enjoyed the reception the most. Just dancing, eating, and being with our closest family and friends was a blast.

Elishia & Ben, I wish you every happiness and every blessing there is!!

Ally & Nick {part 2} Nazareth Hall Grand Rapids, Ohio

ANblog019
When couples write letters to each other and read them out loud for the video before delivering, it sets the tone for the entire day, and what  a sweet tone this was!

Allyson & Nick have this amazing dynamic between the (three) of them. Their ADORABLE son Julian makes their little family this powerhouse of strength and I can only see that growing as they add more littles in the future!

They had an absolutely gorgeous day for their nuptials at Nazareth Hall and here are a handful of my faves.

First looks are always a fun part of the day. It allows little jitters to be released and are ALWAYS filled with SOME kind of emotion. Especially when the bride gives her groom an unexpected gift and I get THESE reactions! (above) That ‘little black book” was of an intimate/sassy secrets session I offer my brides. Nick was TOTALLY shocked and said “How did you do this? She would NEVER do something like this! ” and I’m pretty sure he said some type of words on how awesome it was, but his face says it all!
